From Luxor to Abu Simbel

Amazing what a couple of nights in a luxurious hotel can do! Andy’s definitely getting fit if he feels a 100 km day is an easy one!

Here’s his message from the first day of this four day section.

‘Hello from a beautiful day in Egypt. We’re near Aswan after a 112 km day. Wind was behind us, it was almost all level along the Nile between row after row of vegetable farms. Lots of screaming small kids who were mostly behaved. No stone throwing!
My best day by far and if this is it I’m in. Most definitely YES. Wonderful day in the saddle and feel I could have done another  100 kms or the first 112 a lot quicker!  I really do expect to come back to earth tomorrow, but so what, live the moment.
Tomorrow is a shortish 100 km followed by about 120 the next day; all good for me. The hills in Ethiopia are coming soon, then we’ll see…
It’s 14:39 and tent up and looking real dandy. It’s laid on top of thick grass so I expect a comfortable night.’

From Andy, a quote from ‘Hannes’ who is following Hallspeed on the Dakar car rally.

Gold medals aren’t made of gold. They’re made of sweat, determination, and a hard-to-find alloy called GUTS.

Nice hey?
